Plants ascending or scrambling, non-twining, heav ily and dichasially, usually distinctly acrotonically branched, with distinct long and short shoots; inter nodes sparsely to densely hirsute along 2 lines with re flexed trichomes 150–200 µm; internodes of long shoots 25–60 mm, 1–2 mm diam.; internodes of short shoots 7–15 mm, 0.5–1 mm diam. Leaves distichous, with pet ioles 1–2 mm; colleters absent; blades herbaceous to slightly coriaceous, slightly discolorous, 8–15 × 2.5–7 mm, ovate, basally subacute, apically acute to acumi- nate, marginally weakly and distantly ciliate, glabrous except for few trichomes on proximal part of adaxial midrib; lateral veins seemingly absent. Inflorescences axillary, always 1 per node, sciadioidal, 2- to 5-flowered, 1 to 3 flowers open synchronously, (sub-)sessile; floral bracts ca. 0.75 × 0.45 mm, ovate, reddish, abaxially with trichomes, smooth; pedicels 2.5–3.5 mm, uni formly sparsely puberulous with appressed trichomes ca. 120 µm. Flower buds ca. 1.5 × 1 mm, ovoid; calyx campanulate, abaxially with few trichomes in basal cen tral part of lobes, lobes basally fused, ca. 1 × 0.7 mm, ovate, apically obtuse, with 1 to 2 colleter(s) in sinuses; corolla cyathiform, 2–2.3 mm, ca. 2 mm diam., purple; lobes ca. 1.2 mm wide, basally fused, ovate, apically acute, patent to incurved. Staminal corona basally fused, cream to yellow (fide Hatschbach 17832 and 18207), 0.4–0.5 mm, reaching less than 1/2 of gyno stegium length; lobes ovate to rectangular, obtuse, pat ent, fleshy. Gynostegium 0.6–0.7 × 0.7–0.8 mm, slightly broader than long, sessile; slightly conical; stamens with filament ca. 100 µm, anthers ca. 400 µm, longer than wide, rectangular, abaxially slightly biconvex; an ther wings 300–350 µm, not extending along whole length of anther, at ca. 25° angle, in same plane as anther, basally forming distinct “mouth,” anther wings of adjacent anthers parallel to each other; connective appendages ca. 150 × 300 µm, strongly inflexed. Polli narium with corpusculum ca. 100 × 45 µm, ellipsoid; caudicles ca. 100 µm, S-shaped, concave-convex; pol linia subapically attached to caudicles, ca. 140 × 70 µm, ovate in cross-section, ovoid, slightly spreading. Style-head ca. 160 × 650 µm diam., upper part flat to slightly umbonate. Follicles and seeds unknown.

Phenology. Orthosia dusenii has been collected in flower in November, December, February, and April. Notes. While vegetatively distinct, the floral struc ture supports the molecular position of Orthosia dusenii in the wider “O. scoparia polytomy,” in which it is re trieved as a first-branching member of the O. florida clade (BS = 81, PP = 1; Fig. 1A).
