Perennial herbs, 20–50 cm tall, multi-stemmed, stems erect, simple, densely leafy at base and more loosely in upper part, grayish-woolly, with basal ro sette of leaves persisting at flowering. Leaves 15–50 × 5–18 mm, broadly obovate, long-attenuate at base, apex rounded, mucronate, margins flat; concolorous to slightly discolorous, grayish-woolly above and densely grayish-woolly below; trichomes long, eglandular, es eptate, filiform from base to tip; cauline leaves gradu ally diminishing in size upward. Capitula many, in clusters in axils of upper leaves, arranged in discontin uous, elongated spikes. Involucre narrowly campanu late, 3–3.5 × 2–2.5 mm. Phyllaries 4- or 5-seriate, lamina stramineous; outer phyllaries 2.6–3 × ca. 1.2 mm, ovate-lanceolate, apex acuminate, lanuginose; inner phyllaries 3–3.5 × 0.7–0.8 mm, oblanceolate, apex acute, glabrous. Pistillate florets ca. 70, corolla 1.8–2.2 mm. Bisexual florets 2 to 4, corolla 2–2.2 mm, 5-lobed, anthers 5. Achenes ca. 0.4 mm, pilose, with short, glo bose duplex trichomes. Pappus bristles ca. 2.2 mm.
