Distribución

Distribución y hábitat

Lippia sandwithiana is endemic to Paraguay, found exclu- sively in two sites within the Cerrado ecoregion, spe- cifically in calcareous soil in the Amambay Department (Fig. 19B, white circles). Only two historical collec- tions of L. sandwithiana are known. The AOO barely reaches 8 km², and the EOO has not been calculated because of the absence of a minimum convex hull. Both collections are from the same locality: the gallery forest and scrub along the Apa River, with the sites separated by approximately 70 km along the river. Be- cause of its limited distribution in a single locality, the absence of recent collections, and the lack of records within protected areas, we recommend that L. sand- withiana be classified as Critically Endangered (CR B1ab(i,ii,iv)+2ab(i,ii,iv)). However, further field obser- vations and collections are strongly recommended to assess the current populations of this species.

Notas y observaciones

Phenology. Lippia sandwithiana flowers and fruits in March. Taxonomic notes. Lippia sandwithiana is distin- guished by its coriaceous leaves with revolute margins that are entirely crenate, and its hirsute indument. It resembles L. coriacea; see taxonomic notes under that species. This species is rare, and only one additional specimen other than the type material has been found.
